switching desktop environment to sway causes system to become unusable.

I switched to using sway, after using Ubuntu. I didn't think to disable automatic login, or to change the power button behavior to log me out. I logged out, and I couldn't log back in. I was using the zfs file system, but not encrypted. I tried rebooting the computer, but it didn't even get to the window manager, it just froze. I tried modifying the /etc/gdm3/custom.conf to disable automatic login, to see if that would help, but no luck. I'm going to be reinstalling Ubuntu.
