no sound in KGS cgoban3 ws-applet

Having sound as usual in other applications, Java seems to fail to emit any sounds.

This problem was known to me in 10.04 when sound preferences -> applications showed some program/s was/were using "this" sound interface. Now, even after a reboot in an xterm-only-session, my javaws app fails to produce any sound.

Is there a way to see why and by whom libasound is blocked?

Native version 6 Update 20 as well as 22 have been tested and are silent, too, on my box.

When I launch javaws with aoss I have sound:

aoss javaws -Xnosplash http://files.gokgs.com/javaBin/cgoban.jnlp

No sound without aoss.

aoss is found in package alsa-oss.
