I also have this message coming up:-

Could not initialize the package information
An unresolvable problem occurred while initialising the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/au.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_jaunty_main_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

But dont ask me how to fix it! - I have NO IDEA how Ubuntu works... I was only trained on DOS and WINDOWS!
I think maybe that I should delete this partition and re-install UBUNTU?
BTW - I tried WINDOWS7 and it is fantastic! - for me - to have a "SELF-REPAIR MODE upon rebooting out of a corrupted OS, is absolutely MARVELOUS! - and I am SURE that it could not be TOO HARD for Ubuntu to make one SIMILAR!
