not complete installation of java 6 runtime on ubuntu 8.10 operating system

hw platform:
amd 64 cpu, acer aspire 1502 laptop, installed ram 1280 Mb, 160 GB Hd, 5400 rpm (upgrated by me from original 60 GB, 4600 rpm disk). Ubuntu is installed in a Windows directory, no formattation of NTFS original Win XP Home was needed, I now have a dual boot (WXPH, U 8.10) system.
