Bug Description

When I was a newbie, I remenber I found very unfriendly not to see the usual "*" for each letter typed in a terminal or consol when asked for sudo password.

I can understand (barely) that this is for safety reasons (though there this is *not* happening in a graphical interface e.g. when typing gksudo). But there should at least exist any kind of indicator that what we are typing is actually taken into account.

The very first times, it may just drive someone mad.

@naoli:
It would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writing the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

Once that is done , Kindly add the url here.

Ah , well i always thought it was the app[gnome-terminal] not displaying the " * ",

Since its not, @naoli , no need to report it upstream

Password masking behavior in the terminal is not appropriate paper cut material because it obtains only in advanced user scenarios.

HU ? :O

Sorry, but I disagree. For instance, on our french online doc/help/forum (http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org), there are plenty of pages written for beginners that kindly ask to run a command in a terminal. Half of them are sudo commands. (e.g. if you're stuck with the wifi, which is quite often : http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/wifi) ;)

Am I wrong ?

I agree with the last comment.

Most often, than we would like to accept , an average Ubuntu user has to use the sudo command in the terminal.
Not providing the feedback only confuses the user more.

An advanced user might be aware of this, but the average user will definitely be confused.
