This bug is specifically about sudo (or gksudo etc.) failing completely. The fix described here solves that problem.

You may still see some messages or warnings being printed; that should be fixed but it's not this bug.

You may also see some programs "corrupting" your /etc/hosts file; that is also a bug that needs to be fixed, but it's not this bug either.

It only counts as this bug if you get a message about looking up hostnames, AND THE OPERATION FAILS, stranding you without any way to gain superuser privileges on the system (short of booting off CD and tweaking the disk partition out of band). If you run sudo etc. and the operation succeeds, then it's not this bug.
