Did you also include the part of my patch that allowed build this new
strace binary? If not, then this bug isn't closed.

The lastest version of the source fail to build on sparc. This is a
fragment of the build log available from
<URL:http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?&pkg=strace&ver=4.5.6-1&arch=sparc&stamp=1089625178&file=log&as=raw>

  touch stamp-build
   /usr/bin/fakeroot debian/rules binary-arch
  mkdir build64
  cd build64 && CC="gcc -m64" sh ../configure --prefix=/usr
    --build=sparc64-linux
  checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
  checking whether build environment is sane... yes
  checking for gawk... no
  checking for mawk... mawk
  checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
  configure: error: source directory already configured; run "make
    distclean" there first
  make: *** [stamp-build64] Error 1
  ******************************************************************************
  Build finished at 20040712-0539
  FAILED [dpkg-buildpackage died]

This problem keeps the package from entering testing, and I set
severity to serious because of this.

The patch has been applied (other than to configure) and strace does
not build. Updating configure does not fix anything.

Actually, I can get the build to break in different ways:

Attached is a proposed NMU that fixes the sparc build problems.
If I don't hear otherwise, I will upload in a few days.

With Microsoft, failure is not an option. It is a standard feature.
