stimfit not working in Ubuntu 18.04

Hi,
First thank you for making such a great software such as stimfit available to the cummunity!
Stimfit was working fine on Ubuntu 16.04. However, it is no longer working on Ubuntu 18.04. The problem is that it does not start and I get the following error message:
"../src/common/object.cpp(251): assert "classTable->Get(m_className) == NULL" failed in Register(): Class "wxCommandEvent" already in RTTI table - have you used IMPLEMENT_DYNAMIC_CLASS() multiple times or linked some object file twice)?"
I get the identical error message on three other computers loaded with Ubuntu 18.04. I would appreciate any help in this matter.
