Are you sure this is a bug.

Have you built Stellarium from the current source?

I have no bother compiling and running in Ubuntu and can't reproduce the problem
Looking at the point the log crashes it appears to be a problem with the loading of star data from the skycultures. Maybe your name.fab is corrupt
other places to check are the ssystem.ini and config.ini for errors.

I have no clue if this a bug or not , I am a major newb to linux . the issue I am haveing is on a fresh install of edubuntu that came with stellarium on it , so I have no idea how anything could be corupted. I have seen several older bugs reported in older ubuntu versions that have had this issue and where not resloved that i could find . so i posted this as a bug as did others before me.

Hi

Pre-built Stellarium applications generally need to be built for the version of linux that you are using.
I don't have edubuntu so I can't check.
My versions of linux are Ubuntu 10.4 and 11.10 The Stellarium application supplied with Ubuntu is 0.11.1 and it runs OK on my platform from the download.
However I run 0.11.2 current source 5135 compiled with the standard dependancies
Most of the earlier problems were with screen drivers that were not suitable for Radeon displays and the bug reports became redundant after later source development but have not been closed as they should have been when the problems were overcome.

First, subscribing the whole Stellarium team to the bug activity was an improper move. Don't do it again, please. I have un-subscribed the team, so if any team members are interested in following this, they should subscribe themselves manually.

Second, try to install some other OpenGL applications such as Blender or Google Earth or NASA World Wind and see if they crash, too. If they do, the issue is with your graphics card's driver, not in Stellarium.

Third, check what is your graphics card model and see if there are any problems with it on Linux (i.e. search the Web). I vaguely remember seeing recently a bug report for the Linux drivers of an Intel card.

Fourth, what is your Ubuntu version and how did you get Stellarium 0.11.1? As far as I know, it's available for Ubuntu only through a PPA. Have you tried the default version for your distribution and does it work?
