Bug Description

Binary package hint: stellarium

Severity: harmless, just doesn't look right
Tested with daily lucid 20100217 with 0.10.3 from Scott Howard's ppa , but also seen on karmic with stock stellarium version (0.10.2):
Stellarium by default starts in fullscreen mode. When switching to windowed mode the window is too high, running under the bars on top and bottom.
This does not happen on kubuntu karmic.

I wonder whether the real culprit might be not enough standardization between window managers. But that is just speculation. (There is a bug in the blender bugtracker that might fall under that heading, too.)

Hold alt and click and drag the window, then resize it to a size that fits your screen, or switch to full screen.

No, this is not invalid. It is really a bug. Windows should never by default be too large for the screen. Comment #2 describes a good workaround, but not a solution.

I just checked this with todays live maverick booted via grub2 loopmount. It is still showing this bug.
I also found that upon resizing the window it remembered that new size through fullscreen on/off cycles (with F11) as it should. However, after closing stellarium and reopening it and switching fullscreen off it had forgotten this new size and was back to the oversized window. I checked this with konqueror, kalzium and k3b (all freshly installed on this gnome live system). They all properly remember their size in this case.
Those two things might be related.
