Steam says I'm offline when I'm not. Ubuntu 17.04 Daily

When installing steam either from .deb package from their site, or through apt install steam, I have a popup after installing saying: "Fatal error: Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again."

I am online and all other online content works fine. This is also something that has changed in the daily for Ubuntu 17.04. In 16.10 it works fine, it also works completely fine in Linux Mint, both 18 and 18.1 Beta.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I think it might be related to some DNS settings, but nothing has changed in my /etc/hosts file as far as I can tell.

I had to install libnss-resolve:i386 (found from this issue - https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/4661)

I had to reinstall twice, because I had left some failed downloads, but now I've got it logged in!

Installing libnss-resolve:i386 fixed it for me as well, but only with Steam from the multiverse repos, not if I donwload from the steam page. Could be a coincidence though. Had to try installing several times, but now it's working.

I had this problem as well and it's not enough to install libnss-resolve:i386, installing libcurl3:i386 is also necessary.

Installing `libnss-resolve:i386` works for Ubuntu 17.10 and the .deb file from Valve website.
