Bug Description

Binary package hint: ssmtp

On my server I changed the server's hostname (in /etc/hostname) but forgot to update /etc/hosts. This then resulted in "hostname --fqdn" to fail which again led to ssmtp's installation script to fail. I suggest that there should be a fallback if "hostname" fails (in "postinst" line 22).

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with ssmtp 2.64-4fakesync1.

I am seeing the same problem when trying to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04, but for the dovecot-common package.

I am also seeing this issue using Precise (12.04) and Amazon EC2 inside a VPC (VPC's do not get FQDN hostnames).
