Bug Description

1.
Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release: 16.04

2.
Squid 3.5.12-1ubuntu7.3

3. When running Squid 3.5.12-1ubuntu7.3 we get very poor upload speeds as you can view in the attatched image "Speedtest_Squid_3.5.12_new.png" located in squid_uplaod_issue.tar, if you view the image "Speedtest_Squid_3.5.23_new.png" the downlod and upload speed are almost equal, this is when running Squid 3.5.23 from source/gz.

4. We would like you to upgrade Squid 3.5.12 i Xenial to Squid 3.5.23 due to the above issue mentioned in number 3.

Best Regards
Erik

Thank you for your report and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Can you build 3.5.12 from source/gz and try that for comparison, to ensure that it is the upstream version that causes the difference, rather than the way it is built in packaging in 16.04? And to double check, if you build 3.5.23 in a PPA with the packaging from Xenial, does this fix the problem?

Finally, can you do a bisection to identify an upstream commit that fixes the issue?

FYI: If it was upstream then I suspect it is most likely this upstream change, none of the others had much performance gain in upstream tests:

Thanks Amos. This is very helpful. Erik, I think my requests comment 2 still stand, except that instead of doing a bisection you could just try applying that patch to the squid version in Xenial instead to see if that fixes it. Or if you want to try things in a different order, that's fine. I just want to identify exactly what is the minimal change that is confirmed to fix your problem.

Hi,
trying to clean up a few old bugs.
There was no further feedback for years and also no vast list of other similar reports that might indicate a general problem affecting more use-cases.

Furthermore Xenial nowadays is only in ESM and an issue like this unlikely to be still fixed.
Therefore I would like to correctly set this to incomplete since - without further info - this won't be acted on AFAICS.
