Hi Marius, I'm pretty sure this is a duplicate of bug #729288, which I'll mark it as now.

We haven't quite figured out the cause of the restart problems just yet, so it would be helpful if you were to post the contents of /var/log/squid/cache.log to that bug report, especially if you can isolate the log file to around the same time as the updates failed.

You should be able to work around the issue by running

sudo stop squid
sudo start squid
