Bug Description

Spyder does not start with PyQt v4.10. Bug already exists upstream, seems related to PyQt's version probing in spyder and ipython.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04
Package: spyder 2.1.10-2
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-11.20-generic 3.8.2
Uname: Linux 3.8.0-11-generic x86_64
ApportVersion: 2.9.1-0ubuntu1
Architecture: amd64
Date: Sun Mar 10 12:36:36 2013
InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-03-09 (0 days ago)
InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Alpha amd64 (20130309)
MarkForUpload: True
PackageArchitecture: all
SourcePackage: spyder
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)

no longer affects: spyderlib

I manually commented the version check in site-packages/spyderlib/requirements.py (line 48 to 51). Now spyder starts correctly.

A patch was merged upstream but is unlikely to hit version under 2.13, unless manually applied. Since the software just cannot be used without that fix on Raring, this bug should be marked as important.

Changed in spyder (Ubuntu):
status: New → Fix Released

Thanks for pushing this fix so quickly.

Upstream fix available with the just released Spyder version.

Ok so it means it now works for people who uses spyder via virtualenv/pip, since they can upgrade to this version.

For ubuntu, I guess we'll have to wait for the Debian package to be updated. Sid has PyQt 4.9 still, so they might not see the need to update their package just yet, although it should be considered after PyQt hits 4.10 in debian.
