sa-compile failed leading to upgrade abort from 14.04 to 16.04

Bug Description

Not sure it is wise to run a compilation step when the gcc and libstdc++ is in a precarious state. I believe this is the root cause of the problem.

Hi David,
I think this is a valid bug, just recently I've looked at a similar one.

I'll close this as dup thou, as on the other bug I already asked for configuration details and more background. Please chime in there so that we can find a reproducible case to fix.
