Bug Description

Binary package hint: soundconverter

On Edgy, installed soundconverter using aptitude. Started it and selected an mp3 file and started to convert. It finished in 0 seconds in and had a zero-sized file as output.

Looks like I don't have that here. But since it's the default
behavior/settings (mp3 to ogg), maybe it should be in Depends instead of
Suggests? Sorry for my ignorance about the topic and apologies for the
noise. :)

It shouldn't depend on it, as it's not critical for it to run. However, it should warn you if the appropriate plugin isn't installed. Bug #41457 is filed about that.
