Bug Description

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

As of some time in May, 2011, sound-juicer can no longer retrieve track infromation for CDs and just displays Track1, Track2, etc.

When run from the command line, it is giving the following error message:

This CD could not be queried: Cannot find musicbrainz pages on server. Check your server name and port settings.

This apears to be the same problem reported for a different distribution here:

http://debuginf.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=31465&forum=38

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and this is sound-juicer 2.28.1

Whatever the source of the problem is, it's not restricted to sound-juicer. Users of banshee and rhythmbox are also reporting that access to information from the musicbrainz servers has ended. Both have bugs similar to this one filed here in the last several days.

This leaves ubuntu without any effective means of ripping CDs; anyone who wishes to do has to enter all track info manually. Personally, I'm in the process of ripping several thousand CDs; so this is a real bummer.

Sound juicer seems to be working with MusicBrainz fine for me.

Music brainz are reporting this as a packaging error because all the ubuntu packages are compiled against libmusicbrainz2, but the updates musicbrainz system requires libmusicbrainz3

I want to add that the problem is not limited to Sound Juicer.

Rhythmbox exhibits similar behaviour, but additionally, the name of the CD is detected, but it shows zero tracks. This happens about 70-80% of the time. the other 20-30% the name is not detected but the cd shows tracks which are playable for a while.
