'audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=0 vbr-quality=6 ! id3v2mux' but i not.
3) Missing real user friendly UI to setup high quality MP3 output in profile editor

Hmm, I am going to suggest there is a bug - despite having the mp3 profile marked as 'active' it does not show up in the dropbox of formats to choose from - only flac, ogg and wav do.

If I edit another profile to use the mp3 command line, it works... but vanishes on next run of the program. Currently I have three profiles, all marked as active, all trying to convert to mp3, and none of them show up.

Something's more than 'a feature' here - it's actively not allowing me to select any of them.

Ah, some browsing elsewhere here suggests it's not enough to have lame installed - you need

 sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse

instead / as well.

OK, wishlist suggested elsewhere.

sorry for the bump, but this problem still exists.
it should be pretty easy to fix by adding the appropriate packages to the dependencies or just make a virtual package sound-juicer-mp3. I don't know how how to most elegantly handle this.

the point is: i remember that every time i install sound juicer i try to activate the mp3 profile and when that fail i install lame (stupid me) just to find that that is not enough. then i hit google and find that the solution is pretty easy.

so it would be great if this could somehow be automated.
with mavericks new checkbox at install time to use restricted formats like mp3 one could perhaps depend on that and always just install mp3 support by default if the user has chosen to use it.

Daan,

Check out Ian's solution above, it worked for me.
