Bug Description
After changing my window manager to kdm and using KDE, the Software Center freezes for up to 10 seconds when changing the setting "Notify me of a new Ubuntu version" and before authentication.
Steps to replicate:
1. Using kdm/KDE, open the Ubuntu Software Center.
2. Go to Edit > Software Sources.
3. Choose Updates, then click on the drop-down menu next to "Notify me of a new Ubuntu version," and choose a new setting.
4. An authentication dialog will appear, but the dialog, application and window manager will freeze for up to 10 seconds. No typing will work during this time, and mouse clicks anywhere within the window manager will not work.
