Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

There doesn't seem to be a way to disable the original installer CD as a repository in the new Feisty Beta Synaptic. It's easy to do by editing sources.lst of course, but given that many users will not be keeping their original installer disk handy, I would thing an option (like a checkbox) where the rest of the repo settings are set in the Synaptic GUI would make sense.

Choose Sysem -> Adminsitration -> Software Sources from the GNOME main menu or Settings -> Repositores in Synaptic.

Does this dialog doesn't work as intended or haven't you been aware of it yet?

Cheers,

Sebastian

Sebastian,

Sorry for the delay in answering - I only just got home from work.

I looked in both those locations, and they both give me the same dialog.
Maybe I'm being dumb, but I cannot find where to disable the CD. I can see
checkboxes for Main, Universe, Restricted and Multiverse, but not to disable
the install CD as a repository. See attached screenshot. And in fact, the
first time I installed anything, it asked for the install CD. I had to
manually edit sources.lst before it would download anything.

This is Feisty Beta we're talking about. The dialog is very different to the
Edgy one. But maybe I just don't understand the new dialog box.

Regards,
Steve.

No, I use normal Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop. Screenshot attached. I do hope I'm not missing something stupidly obvious.

This seems also to be related to the bug 98795 I raised. Not only you can't remove CD-ROM but if you click on any options in software source dialog shown by in the screenshot.png dialog will endup by corrupting the source.lust.

I think this bug is very serious as no other application that reads the source.list will return the error I put in bug 98795. Try doing an ubuntu software update and you'll see the error message.

Unless this bug is corrected. the software source dialog can't be used. New user won't know how to fix source.list once corrupted and will be intimidated to use shell to comment the CD-ROM line in source.list.

Please do not push your bugs. There is no relation at all between those two bugs. I am aware of the other bug and I will try to fix it.
