Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

On the UBUNTU SOFTWARE TAB of the Repositories/Software sources Box, i checked box beside "CDROM with ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid Lynx'" and got this error (with disk in drive of course)...

?quote?
error:
Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release amd64 (20110211.1)/dists/lucid/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs
Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release amd64 (20110211.1)/dists/lucid/restricted/binary-amd64/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
"quote"

went to next tab, "other software". it had ADD CDROM but it said "waiting for disk..." and another message "Please insert a disk in the drive" i had the file browser open showing the files on the disk. so i clicked OK and i got "error scanning the CD", "E:Failed to mount the cdrom."

if these functions are supposed to work, then its a bug, if not, and i am supposed to use the command line, then remove the stuff that doesnt work. im a bit heated over the diifficulties in this OS forgive my unhappiness... now i have to download all the stuff i want...

the methods of adding repositories do seem to be a little limited, i asked a question about using saved items as a source of files in other installations and was given an answer that i have to create a repository for my items i have (but one good thing is that it does allow saving of the latest version) however it does seem to be an extra step, rather than just choosing the directory and going with it, even adding files whenever i wish, even from other distros which is what i did in suse (although it i have the feeling that if i didnt have the index from packman for example, i wouldnt be able to use any of the items).

i rebooted computer (for good measure), with disk in drive. started the SPM and checked the repo settings, Ubuntu Software tab, and the CDROM is checked (CD-ROM with Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid Lynx')
then click close. along the left at the bottom, click Origin. above it shows all the sources and CDROM IS NOT THERE.

with the internet off i added items (ie kubuntu desktop) and it wants the internet (the checkbox beside the CDROM icon is ignored).

if you are going to fix it you may as well allow the user to change the priority as in SUSE....
