Bug Description

I upgraded my 12.10 to 13.04 64bit, but when I wanted to re-enable some software sources (reporitories), it doesn't allow me. It asks for password as usually, but then it doesn't enable, nor disable it.

I was able to recreate this when changing mirrors.

Changed in ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → High
status: New → Triaged

This was using version 0.92.17.

affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) → software-properties (Ubuntu)
Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote :

I installed version 0.92.14 of software-properties to see if that had any affect and it did not. Additionally, I noticed the following:

I had a local server in my sources.list files '192.168.11.1' and replaced it with 'ubuntu.osuosl.org' using vim. I then launchpad software-properties-gtk and changed my mirror to 'mirrors.picoserver.com'. After authenticating and closing software-properties-gtk I discovered my sources.list file changed back to '192.168.11.1'.

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote :

Running 'software-properties-gtk -m' did not produce any valuable output as it looked like my sources.list was modified by the output in the terminal. So it seems like it is failing after the debug output.

  def set_modified_sourceslist(self):
    """The sources list was changed and now needs to be saved and reloaded"""
    self.modified_sourceslist = True
    if self.options and self.options.massive_debug:
        self.massive_debug_output()
    self.save_sourceslist()
    self.reload_sourceslist()

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote :

I'm now unable to recreate this could you please try this again by running 'software-properties-gtk -m' in a terminal and then attach all output from the terminal to this bug report? Additionally, the versions of software-properties-gtk and python-apt that you have installed would be helpful too. Thanks!

Changed in software-properties (Ubuntu Raring):
status: Triaged → Incomplete
Tommy_CZ (t-kijas) wrote :

Output from software-properties-gtk -m
Doesn't seems it does anything when trying to enable/disable/delete additional repositories.
Software-properties-gtk ..... version 0.92.17
Python-apt ..... version 0.8.8ubuntu6

The only way I was able to recreate this bug was by using a custom mirror (i.e. not an official ubuntu mirror) in my /etc/apt/sources.list file. Could you execute the following command in a terminal:

grep cz /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.mirrors

Thanks in advance!

This bug affects me: trying to edit / check items to add disabled ppa's didn't work. The grep output is the same as Tommy_CZ, and, well, grepping for "es" gives a lot more URL's.

asala (asala) wrote :

Just in case it might be relevant, I remember of a software center crash during update from 12.10 to 13.04.

asala (asala) wrote :

As a workaround, you can enter /etc/apt/sources.list.d and edit with your favorite editor the *.list files uncommenting (removing leading #) those which you wish to restore.

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote :

What are the full contents of the line in /etc/apt/sources.list.d that had to be uncommented?

What is your system language?

This could be a duplicate of bug #1069019

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote :

It'd really help out if someone could attach their /etc/apt/sources.list file and any sources files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ or answer my question in the following comment.

Tommy_CZ (t-kijas) wrote :

Did you mean some files in sources.list.d? For example opera.list?

Tommy_CZ (t-kijas) wrote :

Full contents, do you mean lists that have to be uncommented? But there are about 80 files in this folder (although I do not want most of them enabled). But nothing can be enabled/disabled in software-properties.

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote :

I believe the following lines your /etc/apt/sources.list file are causing the issue:

# deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/philip5/extra/ubuntu quantal main # zakázáno při povýšení na quantal
# deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/philip5/extra/ubuntu quantal main # zakázáno při povýšení na quantal
# deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu precise main
# deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu precise main

Which makes this a duplicate of bug 1069019.
