As instructed, this is a split from bug 972310.
Related bugs: (to be added in a few minutes)
Consider an item available from non-Canonical repositories, e.g. yad (ppa:webupd8team/y-ppa-manager).
If an item is already installed, there can be inconsistent results.
Using yad as an example:
1. Add yad's PPA (sudo apt-add-repository ppa:webupd8team/y-ppa-manager). Run sudo apt-get update.
2. Install yad (through the terminal or Synaptic Package Manager, as you cannot do it through Ubuntu Software Centre).
3. In Ubuntu Software Centre, go to the "Installed" tab.
4. Enter "yad". Nothing displays; it should show yad. It will display only if you select the down-arrow and choose the appropriate PPA Manager. I would expect the default action to show everything installed. |
