treeview crashes on search

The treeview crashes easily when doing a search. Steps to reproduce
1. open software-center
2. click on the "installed" toolbar button
3. type "foo"
4. type "fo"
5. type "f"
5. scroll around in each step and errors start to show up on the terminal
