Bug Description

Currently software-properties' main window has the title "Software Sources", which can be invoked from:
* software center->Edit menu-> Software Sources
* Synaptic -> Settings menu-> Repositories
* Update Manager -> Settings button

We should keep the title and the label of the action accessing software-propeties consistent, as suggested by the HIG, the action should end with ellipsis, and the title of the window should be the same as the label without the trailing ellipsis.

Regardless of the name chosen, it should be updated in all of the above applications for consistency.

Also see [1] for the work-in-progress design of the new software-properties control center applet, as the title will probably also appear there.

The settings button actually calls a separate application called - software-properties-gtk. This can be run by itself and infact used to be an application in gnome-control-center.

Yes, the inconsistency exists between the button invoking Software Sources and the title of the window, however note the following:
- Software sources is also invoked by Software center, and the menu item is called Software Sources (in the Edit menu)
- Software sources is also invoked by Synaptic (Settings menu->repositories) (therefor I am setting synaptic as affected and updating the bug description to deal with these inconsistencies in all applications, marking Synaptic bug #34361 as a duplicate of this one)
- Settings might be a bit too general, application Preferences are usually called "APPLICATIONNAME preferences" to avoid ambiguity
- Software sources will become a control center panel after 12.04, see the Work-in-Progress design [1], where it is called Software&Updates

Subscribing mpt, the designer working on the Software & Updated control center applet for his input.

As Robert said, my preliminary sketch uses "Software & Updates" as the name for a System Settings panel. To match, I propose that in USC "Edit" > "Software Sources…" should change to "Edit" > "Settings…", and "Settings" > "Repositories" in Synaptic should change to "Settings" > "Software & Updates…". The equivalent button label in Update Manager is already "Settings…", so that doesn't need changing.

Finally, if the System Settings panel isn't implemented for 12.10, I think it would be reasonable to retitle the "Software Sources" window to "Software & Updates Settings" in the meantime.
