Bug Description
Binary package hint: software-center
See screenshot. Software Centre has a neat feature to show current apt tasks ongoing, including stuff initiated outside of Software Centre.
Unfortunately, Update Manger registers (?) with the title "Applying changes", which makes perfect GUI sense inside Update Manager, but makes no sense inside Software Centre, which is, after all, all about applying changes.
Perhaps an additional title is needed? Subtle, but a tiny bit more UI work would really tie the two things together. A brand new user (which is when I encountered this) might not make the link between updates and software centre, and wonder what's going on.
