Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

This occured when updating from 11.10 to 12.04, it looks like the Software Centre hasn't updated and it is aking for CD/DVD when the upgrade is via a USB disk image vdownloaded today.
John

This occured on my machine and I installed via USB. I used the Delete Ubuntu 11.10 and install Ubuntu 12.04 ~ish option. It is repeatable when I attempt to install Guake from the software center. Other packages have installed fine before and after. Guake repeatedly fails.

I have done a fresh install of 12.04 and I got the same asking for CD/DVD in /cdrom/ while installing skype through .deb, I put it in my 1 and only blu ray drive and clicked continue but it did nothing. Just kept clicking cancel until the repeated message dissapeared.

To fix this first log in as root.
How?
type the following in terminal:
"sudo passwd root"
enter your password
enter the new root's password
restart
login as root
remove the first two lines of the /etc/apt/sources.lst
that's done
Cheers

after you modify the /etc/apt/sources.lst
don't forget to save it and you will never get this error.

(Sorry, I should have said this as separate statements. I'll hide that comment.)

I added aptdaemon to the bug, as I think that's where the fix is probably needed.

Bug 628104 is the same problem, under update-manager, and maybe these should be considered the same bug. Thanks.
