Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

Filing on the basis of:

  http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/osrc/article.php/12068_3911906_1/Linux-Does-Being-Competitive-with-Windows-Matter.htm

"Take installing a Debian software package, for example. In older releases of Ubuntu, one would end up installing a software package downloaded onto their desktop via Gdebi. Today, Ubuntu defaults to its software center instead, which is much slower to load than Gdebi and results in a much slower user experience."

I'm not sure of the degree to which this is true, but there is at least a perception in this case that it the use-case in question is slower.

Hi Paul! Thanks for the bug report. We are tracking the startup-speed issue over at bug 677088. Just as a quick update: over the past week we've managed to make some noticeable differences to the startup-speed, very roughly speaking we are now about 30% faster than in maverick, with more improvements coming.
