2010-10-11 13:22:02 Michael Vogt software-center (Ubuntu): status New Incomplete
2010-10-11 16:50:46 Ignacio Marcoux description Binary package hint: software-center Overall performance is extremely bad. And even more since it is a simple app with just a list of programs. It takes a long time to start. This is really bad and must be solved if it is wanted to be used as a gdebi replacement. Navigating is insanely slow. Not only that takes a long time to display software lists, but also when scrolling it lags a lot: You scroll, you stop moving the scroll wheel and keeps on scrolling a few seconds. When you click install, it freezes a few seconds (window turns grey), or it just does nothing for a few seconds, until it is added to the queue. Hardware: Netbook (any netbook will be the same, since they all use the same processor -n270 or n450-) and some fairly old desktop -pentium 4- This happends in all machines I know. In most powerful machines (I have a q6600) it is barely noticeable because it can handle it (the same way it can handle crysis) although still eats CPU and is a bit slow. Some people say "Update your hardware if its slow". Not only that I'm talking about a 2010 netbook which is one of canonical main targets, but also the fact that ubuntu should be able to run in the widest variety of machines, mainly when it can be simply fixed, this is not about bringing 3d in a 486, but about having a simple list of items working fine on a netbook/pentium 4/sempron.
