Ubuntu Software Center hangs on search for Ruby

Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

I Opened the Ubuntu Software Center (USC), entered ruby in the search box and pressed enter. After that USC hanged. I am using Ubuntu 10.10, Maverick in my VmWare Fusion 3.1.0 Virtual Box and only had the terminal, Empathy and Firefox 3.6.3 opened at the same time.

The same happened to me on Lucid too, with the maverick software center installed from a PPA, software-center hung on a search for Ruby.

Hi Jaspar, thanks for reporting this bug and thanks also to Robert for confirming. Based on the symptom you describe, it appears this is a duplicate of bug 596443, so I will mark it as such. Please check that bug for more information about when the fix will be released, and also note that there is a workaround described there there that you can use in the meantime.
