Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

Often, but randomly, software-centre hangs and freezes (grey window).
Crash in question for example happened after installing & uninstalling 7zip, and then simply clicking around a bit.

Hi arand. Thanks very much for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. In reading your description, I believe that that you are seeing is a manifestation of the problem details in bug 514879. One effect of that bug is that some views in Software Center take a very long time to render, with the resulting grey screen that you observe. I'll mark this one as a duplicate of that. If, after the bug fix for 514879 is released you still see this problem, please feel free to reopen this. Thanks!

In taking a second look at your report, I believe that what you are experiencing is actually the problem that has been described and is being tracked in bug 544424, so I have changed the duplicate for this bug to that one. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, and to track the status of a fix. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Please continue to report any other bugs you may find.
