Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-store

I sometimes browse the Store for known packages, only to see the "no screenshot available" message. In these cases, it would be great to have an "upload a screenshot" button allowing the user to do that. That way it wouldn't be up to developers / maintainers to do the tedious job of adding screenshots, and most apps would get one.

You can do it on this site: http://screenshots.debian.net/

Still, that's not immediately apparent to the user so I think my point stands. I am sure that site would like to have Ubuntu's large user base uploading screenshots of the apps they use, and allowing to do it from the store would make it very easy.

I'm not convinced this is a great idea - uploading screenshots is not something for the everyday user and in my opinion shouldn't be in the Software Centre.

However I would support someone developing a tool that assisted in uploading screenshots, perhaps it could indentify installed programs without screenshots (or out of date screenshots).

You could implement this simpler for the users by changing the "no screenshot available" box:
- make the box link to http://screenshots.debian.net/upload/$PACKAGE
- add a message like "No screenshot available. You can contribute one by clicking this box or going to http://screenshots.debian.net/upload/$PACKAGE".

This functionality can be displayed if:
- the user has a Launchpad account associated with the email or
- the user selected a corresponding checkbox in "software sources" (similar to how a user can enable sending of usage statistics) or
- always :)

Hi people I created a path for this problem...

In the file softwarecenter/ui/gtk/widgets/thumbnail.py I modified the lines 104, 146 and 147...

with this patch clicking on the empty gtk.Alignement the software centre will open in the default browser a webpage like http://screenshots.debian.net/upload/$PACKAGE
