Software related applications fail to run

Bug Description

Software and Updates not responding when launching from Applications, in fact I have to manually type it.
Software Center not responding when pressing icons or terminal. Synaptic is launching from terminal.

1. What version of Ubuntu are you using?
2. What output do you get when you run Software & Updates (“software-properties-gtk”) from the terminal?

Maybe this is related to problems using apt-get. can't install anything. See post
