Bug Description

I've been getting for weeks now that Stormcloud is not yet available for 13.04 even though I did purchase it a few months ago on 12.04
It's only available for 12.04 and 12.10 but as a paying customer who fell in love with this application I'd like it on my 13.04 as well since 13.04 runs better on my laptop than 12.x

I've already contacted @ubuntuappdev on Twitter and Facebook but got no response so I'm filing it as a bug then. Please make it available for 13.04

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1155093/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Please explain this to me:
-It's a paid app
-There is an Ubuntu version in development

What exactly do you want? To hit the switch at the last moment with a slight chance of causing problems with the app on 13.04 *if* there are any or do you want a paying customer like me to test it out before the final release on 13.04 happens? 'Cause I'll be more than happy to test and debug it on 13.04 so that people buying it on 13.04 final have the guarantee that it works fine.

I don't expect you guys to make it available within minutes after this post (I've already been waiting for weeks) but at least some kind of response would be nice since I've already reached out to you several times via several platforms (social media and your own Launchpad) and I didn't even get an answer anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

Ubuntu 13.04 is not released yet. Once the integration of the USC backend is finalized and tested with Ubuntu 13.04, we will make all applications that pass QA on Ubuntu 13.04 available.

Nonsense because some commercial apps *are* available like Dirk Dashing 2 for example. So why only make some apps available and others later in the process? Stormcloud is way more popular and easier to test than something like Dirk Dashing 2.

Please don't keep changing this bug to "In Progress" (you aren't working on it), or to other statuses. Development releases of Ubuntu are constantly changing targets until they are stable releases. As such, there is no feasible way to QA the software-center for-purcahse applications and ensure they will work.

When the 13.04 release has been released, if Stormcloud is in the queue for apps to be released via software-center, it will be QAed and released, as John already stated.

For what it's worth, I just now opened software-center, and looked at the list of "for purchase" apps available to install, and there was absolutely nothing. No Stormcloud, nor any version of Dirk Dashing 2.

Changed in software-center (Ubuntu):
status: In Progress → Invalid

This is precisely why paid apps are completely idiotic on Linux.

13.04 is still in development. It's unfair to judge the developer for supporting an OS that is not officially released. some applications may may working on a development release but we at this stage we should be more cognescant and support.

Not all Ubuntu users are developers, personally I appreciate paid apps that provide great support. There are people that are great hackers and appreciates free and open software, and I have high respect for them. But not all ubuntu users are hackers just like myself.

@Mark: I'm not judging the developer. In fact, the developer of Stormcloud wasn't too happy about it either when he heard that it wasn't available for 13.04 yet.

I have bought the program from the Ubuntu software centre from 13.04. The software is available for sale but dose not work. There is the not so small matter of the "sale of goods act" Ubuntu is selling a product that is known not to work. You are sill selling it! It needs to be removed from the software centre until it has been fixed or you are exposing yourselves to litigation and the associated negative press by selling a known defective product. Is there even a system for customer refunds???

Changed in software-center (Ubuntu):
status: Invalid → Fix Released
