Bug Description

when using software center to install an app, the screen locks up, but the system responds to mouse and keyboard input.

scenario1
1 open dash>applications lens
2 right-click a not-installed app to open preview
3 click the downlaod button
4 type password, press enter

result
5 password dialogue doesn't close, but flickers.
6 screen is frozen nothing responds to mouse hover.
7 i can press ALT+F2 and type 'xkill' and press ENTER blindly. the cursor changes to an x
8 i click unity panel, and compiz restarts.
9 the app has or has not been installed. ymmv

scenario2
1 start Software-center
2 choose app and click install
3 type password and press enter
4 software center installs the app, but freezes at the end.
5 the process icon flickers, and the screen locks up like above.

in both cases only killing compiz unfreezes the desktop.

When the app does install, it is not added to the launcher.

Could it be the add-to-launcher animation that's messing with compiz?
Or something dbus messing with global menu?
