The log says:

This requires installing packages from unauthenticated sources.

gnome-codec-install totem-plugin-arte'

The log is actually a red-herring.

I think this bug is really that there is no policykit agent running. Software-center could try to start one,
but it really should be the job of either policykit or the desktop environment to do that.

summary: - software-center crashed with AuthorizationFailed in _run_transaction():
- org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.Error.Failed: ('system-bus-name', {'name':
- ':1.90'}): org.debian.apt.install-or-remove-packages
+ Apport recoverable error when no policykit authentication agent is
+ availalbe
