Ubuntu Software Center hanging when installing >5 packages at the same time

The Ubuntu Software Center seems to hang after 5+ packages are in the progress section.

Each time I click install on a package (after the 5 packages are already in the progress section), the Software Center hangs for a while when adding the package to the progress section.

The more packages that are in the progress section, the longer the hang seems to be.

Eventually, when it reaches 30 packages in the progress section, the Software Center occasionally crashes, and/or hangs permanantly.

I experience hang when trying to open software center. I can only add one package at a time, if that. It takes inordinate amount of time to open in the first place.
