Bug Description

Software-center is not working. It opens but then nothing happens when I click to start a download. Also the package manager does not work (it does not load), whereas to make synaptic work I have to launch it from the shell.
launching software center from the shell I obtain the following message, hope this helps to solve:

Hi Roberto, and thank you for your report. When you obtained that trace above, it looks like you did not try to actually try to do an install as I don't see any error messages that would correspond to that. Would you mind retrying this, but go through the steps to reproduce the error that you are seeing?

The answers to these two questions will help us:
1. Is this reproducible? (it sounds from your report that it is)
2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as detailed as possible.
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Also, in order to add more debug info to this bug, w ould you please also run the following in a terminal?

  $ apport-collect 1015797

Thanks very much for your help!

Also, please make sure that you have updated all of your software to the latest versions in Precise as there have been quite a few fixes since the final release.

Thanks!

This looks like there is a issue with the policykit agent:
