Change of login details causes Ubuntu software centre 401 due to incorrect credentials

Bug #1013619 reported by Simon McNair on 2012-06-15

software-center (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

I originally created my account as <email address hidden> (example) and then went through the laborious process of changing this back to <email address hidden>.

Since I could not log off and log back on to Ubuntu Software centre I could not download the packages as they had my old login username. I could also not change it.

A 'sudo apt-get --purge --reinstall install software-center' failed as the setting was not specific to USC.

I ended up following advice from and modified my login name in /etc/apt/auth.conf.

There need to be a process to login/log off or change username/password. Manual editing will not hack it for your average end user.

Hi Simon, and thanks for your report. It's true that it is a difficult process to regain access to your purchased items after changing your lauchpad login name. As this would be a new feature I'll mark this as a wishlist item so that we keep it on our radar as we plan new features in Software Center.

Best regards,
