Bug Description

I 'purchased' Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances from the software center. The package failed to install. It's now unclear what I'm supposed to do to get my purchase onto my system. The software center app has a status indicator that says "Installing...", but that seems incorrect (download failed). There is a "Buy..." button, do I have to buy my purchase again? If I'd paid money for this app I'd be annoyed that I have to buy it again - I certainly wouldn't want to be charged twice. I expected to see a "please try again" button or something similar, but if it exists I can't find it.

Here's the text in the error dialog:

W:Failed to fetch https://private-ppa.launchpad.net/commercial-ppa-uploaders/tiberiumalliances/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/binary-amd64/Packages The requested URL returned error: 401
, W:Failed to fetch https://private-ppa.launchpad.net/commercial-ppa-uploaders/tiberiumalliances/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/binary-i386/Packages The requested URL returned error: 401
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwarePackageOperations#download-failed>: "If, during an installation or update, a package fails to download (ERROR_PACKAGE_DOWNLOAD_FAILED), then: 1. If the computer is no longer connected to the Internet, an error alert should appear. It should have ... buttons “Cancel” and “Try Again”."

<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#software-item-screen-state-installed>: "...a button at the trailing end: “Buy…” if installation requires sign-in and payment, “Install…” if it requires sign-in only, or “Install” if it requires neither."

Steve Hi could you please check /etc/apt/auth.conf exists and if it does if it contains info for that application please. That will help us a little bit trying to figure out what went wrong and why. Many thanks.

After the original failure I clicked 'Buy' in SW Center, and the app downloaded properly.

Now that the app has been downloaded, I see that I have 2 identical entries for that app in /etc/apt/auth.conf

It seems that the fix here might be to simply change the button text to "Install" when a purchase is completed but its download/installation failed for any reason. Steve, would that made sense to you? "Please try again" is an interesting idea.

mpt, any thoughts?

@Gary: I assume you mean the text of the "Buy" button? I think that makes sense. I think it's also important to reset the status indicator though, so I don't see both "Installing..." and "Install". That might prompt people to think that they don't need to click "Install".
