Bug Description

In my Ubuntu 20.04 I did an update/upgrade through Software Updater yesterday (2020-09-02). I do the updates regularly so I guess the updates are like 1 week old at most. The new kernel also got installed: 5.4.0-45-generic (from 5.4.0-42-generic).

After this the PC was freezing constantly, immediately or some time after login. So I returned to the 5.4.0-42-generic kernel.

Now the PC is not freezing any more but I cannot open any application that was installed through snap (Ubuntu Software). Not even this Ubuntu Software (snap store) itself.

For example when trying libreoffice:

~$ libreoffice
/snap/libreoffice/191/snap/command-chain/desktop-launch: line 50: /home/croraf/.config/user-dirs.dirs: Permission denied
sed: can't read /home/croraf/.config/user-dirs.dirs: Permission denied
/snap/libreoffice/191/snap/command-chain/desktop-launch: line 243: /home/croraf/.config/user-dirs.dirs: Permission denied
cp: cannot open '/home/croraf/.config/user-dirs.locale' for reading: Permission denied
/snap/libreoffice/191/snap/command-chain/desktop-launch: line 248: /home/croraf/.config/user-dirs.locale: Permission denied

NOTE: I'm not sure if all apps installed through Ubuntu Software fail. I also use https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/setup/linux application for which I see the files in ~/snap/ but am not sure if I run it through snap or not, because I had some applications installed both through snap and through apt.

I'm actually not sure that this libreoffice I'm trying to run is installed through snap, although I see ~/snap/libreoffice files.

It is definitely the issue with snaps. I also attach the dmesg made on an updated 5.4.0-45-generic kernel (that is also often freezing after login)

affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

Please attach the output of `snap list --all`, and then the output of `snap connections libreoffice`.

Hi.

This problem I don't experience any more. It was reported more than 1 year ago. I think I uninstalled libreoffice as snaps, and installed them with apt.

I don't know if I have any more apps installed as snaps.

snap list --all does not show libreoffice any more, but show for example "keep-presence" application:
keep-presence 1.0.3 3 latest/stable carrot69 -

which works correctly.
