Bug Description
I've been debugging gnome-characters, telegram, etc. not showing in the Applications list / in searches in GNOME with kenvandine on #ubuntu-desktop.
/etc/X11/
This effectively leads to installed snaps not being linked in the UI, so they need to be started manually from the command line. This leads to poor user experience.

This seems to only be an issue with wayland on bionic. It works fine in the xorg session. I noticed snapd on 17.10 includes scripts to set XDG_DATA_DIRS in both profile.d and Xsession.d however on bionic the Xsession.d script has been removed.
