X-based snaps doesn't work on (some) KDE5 distros

Bug Description

X-based snaps doesn't work on some distros with KDE5 since the XAUTHORITY env variable points to /tmp/xauth-${UID}-${DISPLAY/:/_} that is not usable inside a snap since /tmp/ is private inside the snap (see kdeinit5).

You can launch the snap (tested on ArchLinux) using the old ~/.Xauthority file:

XAUTHORITY=~/.Xauthority /snap/bin/vlc

If you don't have an updated ~/.Xauthority just do cp /tmp/xauth-${UID}-${DISPLAY/:/_} ~/.Xauthority

Thank you for finding the root problem :-)

I think we need to figure out how to delegate handling of XAUTHORITY to to the x11 interface so that it can be handled without special-casing anything in snap-confine. If the x11 interface could define environment variables (and it will be able soon) we would only have to figure out where to put/copy the .Xauthority file and how to keep it up-to-date as session change.

importance: Undecided → High
