Was installing another package without running dist-upgrade first, running dist-upgrade afterwards solved it.

I don't think this is a problem with snapd (I haven't experienced anything like that), looks like an inconsistency in the packages which, as you said, got corrected by apt-get dist-upgrade. Did you see this happening with subsequent snapd package upgrades?
