Smplayer hangs after starting a movie while movie is playing

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity (3d) desktop
2. Start smplayer. Everything seem to work fine (toolbar buttons, menu, etc)
3. Load any movie and start it

Results:
The movie starts playing and plays fine. But smplayer controls do not respond (including controls like: movie and volume sliders, start/stop/fast-forward, subtitles and audio selection, full screen). If trying to click several times, smplayer grays out and Ubuntu tells me it's unresponsive. The movie still plays fine.
Error is reproducible 100%, with all GUIs (default, minigui and mpcgui). Tried with several video drivers (like gl, gl-ATI, x11), with several movie files.

'smplayer' shows SMPlayer v. 0.6.9 (SVN r3447).

Resolved the bug by switching from mplayer 2:1.0~rc4.dfsg1+svn33713-1 to mplayer2 2.0-134-g84d8671-2build1 .
Both are available in oneiric repository.
Possibly it is a packaging issue - smplayer should require mplayer2 while it requires any mplayer version.
