Bug Description

Binary package hint: slocate

Installed 8.04 alpha-1, then received notification icon that 271 updates are available. I clicked to start update. About 2/3 of way through the installation phase, crash notification icon appeared. I clicked on it, but icon "unable to get data" appeared. Scrolling back, I found the error message which said that slocate.3.1-... encountered errors while processing. Tried again to update (slocate was still listed as available for update). Still failed. See details in comment below.

The other 270 updates apparently installed okay.

I put my slocate package on hold so I don't continually get the error.

riri has it spot on. I purged slocate and did a reinstall of cron (already installed by default). From there, I added slocate back in and it worked without any errors.
