Bug Description

We have this dependency in skype-bin:
Breaks: skype (< 4.1.0.20-0.11.10.1)

But skype (and even skype-bin) in partner repo has version 4.1.0.20-0ubuntu0.11.10.1 which is lower than 4.1.0.20-0.11.10.1. Thus made imposible to install skype.

Workaround: It may be possible to install skype-bin alone. But I'm not sure if package skype is required to work properly.

Ubuntu version 12.10 (Quantal)

Changes for the versions:
Installed version: 4.0.0.8-0oneiric1
Available version: 4.1.0.20-0ubuntu0.11.10.1

This update does not come from a source that supports changelogs.

repos are added ok... how to upgrade?

Fixed in oneiric, precise, quantal, and raring:

skype (4.1.0.20-0ubuntu0.11.10.2) oneiric; urgency=low

I've verified that skype is installable again (at least as far as package dependencies go) on precise/i386 and precise/amd64.

Can we please reopen this bug? It's still not possible to install skype-bin:i386 on oneiric, because it depends on libqtwebkit4:i386 (>= 2.2~2011week36), but the installable version is 2.2~2011week36-0ubuntu1, which apt considers older.

I've followed up to your separate bug separately, but for what it's
worth, 2.2~2011week36-0ubuntu1 is unambiguously newer than
2.2~2011week36. The problem here is that apt tends to stop at the first
error, which can make its output misleading until you get used to it
(and sometimes even afterwards); the trick is to keep adding packages it
complains about to the list of things you try to install at once until
you get down to a more useful error.

hi,
as for me, when i did a dist-upgrade, first (using the erroneous package) skype-bin got upgraded but the skype package got removed
after that (while waitning for the fix) i removed even skype-bin just to be sure (so i had no skype at all), then, after the fix has been relesed/applied, i did an 'apt-get install skype' and it installed whitout any problems (no libqtwebkit4 problem at my end -- i'm on a 32 bit system btw)
