Bug Description

I installed Shutter via Ubuntu's Software Center (Lucid Lynx), but when I removed it after a while the old print screen function didn't work. And I googled it and checked the keybindings in Ubuntu (so that Print Screen would actually print the screen).

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

- Shutter is not in the default install , hence not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the papercuts project.

Confirmed. This is a bug related to the packaging of Shutter. We'll handle that in release 0.86.4.

Hey I have got a workaround:

Just reinstall Shutter. go to Edit-> preferences -> Keyboard and uncheck the boxes.

The you can remove Shutter and everything is fine.

I can't reproduce this with 0.86.4-0ubuntu1 in natty. Is this using the packages from the Ubuntu archive or from a PPA?

This problem exists in both packages (Ubuntu archive and PPA). When configuring the keybindings (see Shutter's preferences) the following GConf keys are modified:

"/apps/metacity/global_keybindings/run_command_screenshot"
"/apps/metacity/global_keybindings/run_command_window_screenshot"
"/apps/metacity/keybinding_commands/command_screenshot"
"/apps/metacity/keybinding_commands/command_window_screenshot"

When removing the package those values are still configured for Shutter. My idea was to reset the keys to reasonable default values (e.g. gnome-screenshot like in a fresh installation of ubuntu) when uninstalling the package.

It is still happening with 0.87.
It is not really the packaging question - you simply cannot do, what you'd like to do, during package uninstallation - the whole process is ran as the root user, and there is no way to reset gconf settings at this point for users. I'll try asking some folks about it, but for now I don't see a clean solution. Metacity should really be smarter, and fallback on gnome-screenshot, if it allows changing this setting.

Ok, when there is no clean solution to this let's close this bug.

It is possible to modify these entries during installation but not during uninstallation?
Anyway, perhaps I have a nice and easy fix for this. When adding sceenshot handlers to GConf,
instead of
"shutter --fulscreen"
put
"shutter --fulscreen | <previous command>"
or
"shutter --fulscreen | gnome-screenshot"

Did you test that? Does it work? I don't think we can use any
operators (OR) here, can we?
