Bug Description

Hello, I'm using Shotwell Photo Manager, and I have downloaded some of my old pictures from Facebook to import into Shotwell. When I hit import from folder and select the folder with all the downloaded images, Shotwell tells me it finds however many duplicates which are clearly not duplicates. I haven't been able to find a solution to this online or by myself.

Hi Jeremy,

Let's figure this out. When you download photos from Facebook, do you put them in a folder with other photos that are already in Shotwell? This would explain why Shotwell is giving you the message that there are duplicates it will not import. Have you checked that the Facebook photos have been imported into Shotwell?

After I download the pictures from Facebook, or from emails, I move them into the same folder that have other photos from that event (already imported into Shotwell). Almost none of the Facebook pictures are imported and are detected as duplicates. Do I have to manually move all of the Facebook pictures out of the already imported folder to a new one?

My hunch is that your Facebook photos are already in Shotwell from a previous import and that's why you're seeing this message about photos being already imported. Shotwell looks at the photo itself (and not the filename) to determine duplicates.

I have tried to reproduce what you're seeing, however I am able to successfully upload photos to Shotwell that have been downloaded from Facebook.

Your hunch is exactly right, as the photos had imported into the No Event category which missed my eye. I deleted them all and reimported them without a problem. Thanks for the help!
